Cisco Joins Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition Along with Four New Members

By Jayashree Adkoli August 04, 2010

The Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG) announced addition of five new members namely Cisco, Cooper Power Systems, Tropos Networks, Grid Net, and U-SNAP Alliance.

The DRSG is a trade association for companies that provide products and services in the areas of demand response and smart grid.

According to DRSG, the smart grid coalition works to educate and provide information to policymakers, utilities, the media, the financial community and stakeholders on how demand response and smart grid technologies can help modernize our electricity system and provide customers with new information and options for managing their electricity use.

Some of the existing members of the DRSG Coalition include: Aclara, Advanced Telemetry, Boeing, CalAmp, CALMAC, Comverge, CPower, Echelon, Electrolux, Enfora, EnOcean Alliance, Enspiria Solutions, GE, Google, Grid Net, HomeGrid Forum, Honeywell, Ice Energy, Itron, LG Electronics, Lockheed Martin, Lutron Electronics, Oracle, PCN Technology, Sensus, Silver Spring Networks, SmartSynch, Trilliant Networks, Whirlpool, ZigBee Alliance, and more.

Dan Delurey, president of the DRSG, said, "It is exciting to see smart grid and demand response being increasingly well received by policymakers, investors, stakeholders and—most importantly—consumers."

Delurey added, "The deployment of the smart grid is no longer something that will happen at some point in the future. It is happening now, and that is good for consumers and good for the country as everyone looks for options to reduce energy use and energy costs.”

Delurey further added, “The members of the DRSG Coalition have made a big contribution towards this forward movement, and as I welcome Cisco, Cooper Power Systems, Tropos Networks, Grid Net, and U-SNAP Alliance to the group, I'm pleased to say that DRSG's ability to help make the smart grid a reality has just become stronger."

Cisco, one of the new members of DRSG, is a provider of networking and communications solutions. The company believes that technology can help transform how the world manages its energy and environmental challenges. Its vision is for networking communications solutions to enable a smarter, more reliable and highly-secure energy infrastructure for the 21st century that brings economic as well as environmental benefits.

Cooper Power Systems is a provider of comprehensive reliability and productivity solutions for utility, commercial and industrial customers. It also provides Demand Response solutions to Electric Utilities in North America through their Cannon DR technology and Yukon Enterprise DR Software. The Energy Automation Solutions “EAS” group within Cooper Power Systems is a provider of innovative smart grid technologies and solutions that enable customers to optimize their electrical grid performance.

Another new member to the DRSG, Tropos Networks, is a provider of IP broadband network systems that are used to build smart grids and smart cities. Its solutions facilitate in aggregating multiple demanding applications.

Grid Net, also a new member to the DRSG, is a San Francisco, CA-based provider of real-time Smart Grid and Smart Home software platforms for utilities, partners, and customers. Grid Net's all-IP platforms are utility-grade reliable and scalable, and are built to meet regulatory and government Smart Grid interoperability and cyber-security standards.

Another new member to DRSG is The U-SNAP Alliance. It is an open industry association developing an industry specification for connecting energy aware consumer products with smart meters. The Alliance membership is comprised of utilities, manufacturers, consultants and other parties interested in developing or deploying the standard.
