The
Electric Vehicle Consumer Adoption Summit will run from June 21 to 23 in San Francisco and is put together by IQPC, a well-known conference producer. While our smart grid summit has a fairly broad scope, this event is narrow but deep. We have one panel in
our program about electric vehicles, and it's one of the sessions I'm most looking forward to.
Tampa Electric Company
announced the launch of its pilot project for evaluating "smart" solar energy systems which are mounted on utility and streetlight poles. For this project Tampa Electric has collaborated with Petra Solar, a South Plainfield, New Jersey based clean technology company. Petra Solar's trademarked SunWave solar photovoltaic systems helps in generation of solar power and at the same time it enhances the smart grid capabilities and electric grid reliability. This joint announcement was made by both the companies at the Edison Electric Institute's Annual Convention/Expo.
On June 16, 2010, Ontario's
Information and Privacy Commissioner released a new report titled 'Privacy by Design: Achieving the Gold Standard in Data Protection for the smart grid.' The report, authored by Commissioner Dr. Ann Cavoukian, basically outlines best practices for data protection and privacy for smart grid, and is based on extensive input from Hydro One and Toronto Hydro. Both utilities are industry leaders with smart meter initiatives, and it is this connection to the home that drives a lot of the discussion around privacy.
MiX Telematics, a provider of vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions, has introduced its FM communicator product into Scania Australia. The technology, developed by MiX Telematics makes monitoring driver and vehicle information easy. The FM Communicator offers vehicle tracking, data recording and GPRS communications as standard. Accompanying the FM Communicator, fleet managers make use of the web-based information service, FM-Web. This allows fleet managers to access vital data from anywhere in the world via any internet connection.
