CSC Leverages Proximetry's AirSync Platform to Develop Advanced Smart Grid Network Management Cloud Service

By Arvind Arora January 20, 2012

Smart Grid networks are evolving with the times, and the latest innovations being made within other technology markets have been making it possible for smart grid enterprises to streamline their operations and reduce the costs involved considerably.

CSC, a provider of technology-enabled business solutions and services, has entered a partnership with Proximetry, a well known wireless network and performance management software provider to deploy its AirSync platform within development of an advanced smart grid network management cloud service.

Falls Church, Va- based CSC reportedly earned a revenue of $16.2 billion for the year ending on September 30, 2011 while the San Diego, California-based Proximetry allows a number of wireless operators to visualize, provision and optimally manage their multi-network, multi-frequency and multi-protocol infrastructure at much lower costs than competing solutions.

AirSync software by Proximetry is a Smart Grid Network Management System that allows enterprises to realize enhanced device configuration and management, software management, QoS and Traffic Shaping, network monitoring and network topology visualization for managed devices. Further, it enables them to dynamically monitor, control and manage their wireless networks through a single network operations center. The solution offers extensive support to 4G LTE, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, 3G and RF-Mesh networking technologies and, when integrated with the advanced cloud services and deep utilities of CSC, will enable a competent unified platform for smart grid communications network management.

The AirSync-based cloud offering by CSC will ensure an effective, secure and reliable network management to multi-vendor, public and private networks based upon LTE, WiMax, WiFi and 4G platforms so that utility operators can manage their smart grid communication networks in an enhanced and streamlined manner. CSC will host the solution through its cloud data centers and will offer the solution in the U.S. market only, during the initial phase. Further, the offering will be introduced in other global markets later this year.

“In the age of instant information, rapid response and smart devices, utilities must have an unprecedented level of expertise in managing the change impacting communication networks,” commented Jill Feblowitz, vice president at IDC Energy Insights. “Agility, flexibility and the degree to which they’re equipped to extend the same network communication service levels provided in the data center to the grid transformation, with the right people, processes and technologies, will determine when and how well the benefits of the smart grid will gain traction.”

“Realizing the full potential of smart grid technology requires a sophisticated, adaptable enterprise architecture that can interactively collect, synthesize, report on and respond to vast amounts of data collected in real time,” said Robert Welch, president for Chemical, Energy and Natural Resource Group at CSC. “We’re offering the market a multi-vendor, multi-radio as a service solution that provides enhanced flexibility, improved performance and, in most cases, cost savings that can be passed on to the customer, a key competitive differentiator in these uncertain economic times.”

Earlier this month, CSC and Aria Systems announced the commercial availability of CSC CloudBill to businesses in the European market. CSC CloudBill is a billing and subscription management solution delivered ‘as a service’ that provides online businesses with a more efficient way to monetize their products and services.
