Kwikset and Belkin recently entered a partnership agreement to launch new products that use the power of Belkin's newly launched WeMo system. The new products will enable any homeowner with a Wi-Fi network to monitor and control their door locks remotely from a smartphone.
“Kwikset is thrilled about our partnership with Belkin, as it will allow us to launch remote access to our door locks that is simple to use, highly affordable and focused on giving homeowners peace of mind, no matter how far away from home they are,” said Keith Brandon, Home Connect Marketing Manager, Stanley Black & Decker, in a statement.
“Belkin's partnership with Kwikset will allow homeowners a smart, simple solution to extend the power of WeMo to their front door using technology that is familiar to the whole family,” said Kevin Ashton, general manager at Belkin. “We're looking forward to demonstrating the functionality of Kwikset's current Home Connect Technology offerings at the Consumer Electronics Show this week.”
With Belkin's newly launched WeMo solution, upcoming Kwikset Home Connect users will be able to control lock access solution directly, eliminating the need to have broader control platform already in place. Also, the Belkin's free WeMo smartphone app will enable the users to lock and unlock Kwikset's products remotely.
In related news, Kwikset successfully defended its popular SmartKey re-key technology patents and that the Kwikset lawsuit against Schlage for patent infringement and false advertising has been amicably resolved. As a condition of settlement, Schlage agreed to cease making and selling all SecureKey products as of December 31, 2011.
Kwikset originally filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against Schlage on March 2, 2010, for patent infringement of Kwikset's re-key technology and for false advertising - Kwikset alleging that Schlage's claim that SecureKey products are “10 Times More Secure” than other lock products was false and misleading.
