SmartSynch Added to Grid Net's Software Reseller Program

By Carolyn J Dawson December 01, 2011

Grid Net, one of the leading providers of machine-to-machine network operating system for the smart grid, recently announced that SmartSynch isthe latest member of its Software Reseller Program. As the third member of this program, SmartSynch joins the ranks of GE Energy and Landis+Gyr.

John W. Combs, Chairman and CEO of Grid Net said, “Grid Net is pleased to partner with SmartSynch. With the drive toward more 3G/4G cellular smart grid deployments, SmartSynch's expertise in using cellular networks as the communications backbone of the smart grid is an important addition to our software partner program."

Together, the two entities will announce their first joint project sometime in the near future.

Grid Net essentially allows utilities to make a choice from any of the device manufacturers and wireless carriers that function on broadband networks like 2G, 3G, 4G-LTE, 4G-WiMAX, and FTTH/Ethernet. Devices that are powered by Grid Net will have the ability to cater to a number of cutting edge smart grid applications. They will also have the bandwidth necessary to implement new capabilities in remote firmware upgrades. This will allow it to give sufficient room for the expansion of the device's abilities with the passing of time.

Stephen Johnston, CEO of SmartSynch said, "We partnered with Grid Net so that we can provide their machine-to-machine network operating system for the smart grid and their smart metering / demand response application suite to our current and prospective customers. Grid Net offers superior flexibility, scalability, and security, and we are pleased to be working closely with them."

There are several plus points to Grid Net such as the fact that it allows utilities to constantly work on upgrading themselves without exerting pressure on costs for replacement. This it is able to do because of its characteristics of being scalable and extensible. From the customer meter upwards, real time information can be conveyed from the device all the way to back office applications. This way staff are well aware of the operational condition of their grid infrastructure at all times. These are just some of the features.

Completely structured on Internet Protocols (IP) and Grid Net's deployment of embedded SELinux, the Grid Net Machine-to-Machine Network Operating System for the Smart Grid is several steps ahead of being just a smart metering system. Smart meters that are Grid Net-enabled have cutting edge distribution network grid sensors. These allow it to give real-time quality of service, dependability as well as service safety information.
