Pike Research Finds Industrial Defender, IBM, NitroSecurity Best Prepared to Manage Smart Grid Cyber Security Risks

A new Pike Research report has named Industrial Defender, IBM, and NitroSecurity (News - Alert) as the vendors who are best positioned for dealing with smart grid cyber security risks.

In a release, Bob Lockhart, Senior Analyst, said, "Smart grid cyber security remains a new market with an intriguing mix of innovators, control system specialists, and multinational security vendors. There are few enforceable regulations and many utilities have not yet deployed a full security solution. There is much to play for in this market, and success is likely to require a mix of innovation, utility operations knowledge, and financial resources. No one vendor has all of these yet."

While the smart grid cyber security market is still emerging, the landscape currently features a number of well-established smart grid specialists and enterprise security vendors. Pike Research (News - Alert) ranked Industrial Defender as the best respect to network security, as the company has been focusing on the development of advanced solutions which are designed specifically to address smart grid cyber security and has in place strong political capital with a number of utilities. IBM (News - Alert) is the only large multinational which earned a ranking in the Pike Research's Leaders category. The third company which was placed within this category was NitroSecurity, an independent start-up.
