Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc., a Thornton, Colo., developer of flexible thin-film solar modules, recently announced a distribution partnership with Green Earth Energy and Technology. Under the agreement, Green Earth will begin the distribution of Ascent Solar's CIGS modules for building integrated (BIPV) and portable power solutions in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.
Green Earth Energy and Technology is a Belgium-based distributor of renewable energy technologies, solar modules and complete photovoltaic systems with a focus on construction and management of industrial solar parks and large-scale solar arrays.
The alliance with one of the Europe’s biggest green technology distributors will enable Ascent Solar Technologies to make a strategic entrance into the European market. Ascent noted that its lightweight, flexible, high-power thin-film CIGS modules can be directly integrated into building materials for residential and commercial establishments, according to the release. The partnership with Green Earth Energy and Technology will help it reach out to multiple segments in Europe's solar market.
In addition to standard building materials, Ascent Solar modules can also be directly integrated into commercial transportation, automotive solutions, space applications, consumer electronics for portable power or configured as stand-alone modules for large scale terrestrial deployment.
“We are pleased to announce our agreement with Green Earth Energy and Technology,” Ascent Solar President and CEO Farhad Moghadam said in a statement. “This relationship will give us access to new and emerging market opportunities in building applied photovoltaics that could provide significant opportunity in Europe over the coming years. We also expect that other products in our lineup of flexible, lightweight CIGS modules will be marketed through this relationship.”
Green Earth Energy and Technology has been participating in the Intersolution Solar Energy Expo in Ghent, Belgium, since January 27 and will be there until January 29.
Last month, Ascent Solar appointed Hans Olav Kvalvaag to its Board of Directors to replace Einar Glomnes, who resigned from the board effective December 21, 2010. Kvalvaag was designated for appointment to the board by Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS, the company's largest stockholder.
