ReliOn's New Solution Set to Boost Cell Fuel Market

By Rahul Arora October 14, 2010

ReliOn has been developing a bulk hydrogen refueling solution for fuel cell installations that would enhance the credibility of such backup power at customers’ sites by providing a safe and secure mechanism for bulk storage of fuels, in addition to increasing the time gap between two refills.

ReliOn, a provider of credible fuel cell solutions for backup power applications, touted the advantages associated with hydrogen fuel to bring forth this innovation that will open large markets to fuel cell installation companies.

As opposed to the conventional fuels such as propane and diesel, hydrogen has many benefits that are making it a preferred choice for contemporary companies dealing in power backup solutions. Apart from minimum storage worries, hydrogen also scores high on the environmentalists’ report card as an environment-friendly fuel. Since hydrogen has no shelf life, it can be kept in a container indefinitely and nullifies the chance of spoilage or damage concomitant with bulk storage of fuels. There is also no issue of soil pollution in case of spillage or air pollution that is associated with propane or diesel.

A growing number of business enterprises are counting on fuel cells, which is a source of clean energy, for backup power. Bulk hydrogen refueling solution for fuel cell installations will go a long way in promoting the use of cell fuels as backup power.

ReliOn customers are using this as part of a Department of Energy (DoE) Market Transformation Program. This program is being executed as a pilot project that has seen positive response from the market. A sizable number of new fuel deployments are resulted out of this program in places where backup power of 72 hours or more is needed.

In collaboration with multiple tier-one telecommunications customers, ReliOn has successfully deployed these units. However, the success of this program depends on the promise of hydrogen suppliers to ensure uninterrupted supply of bulk hydrogen to locations in several regions around the United States.

“Because fuel cells provide highly reliable, clean energy, they are being deployed as an alternative to diesel generators at a growing number of locations where backup power is a critical requirement,” said Gary Flood, ReliOn president and CEO, in a press release. Additionally, the availability of the bulk refueling solution offers customers a safe, reliable solution for longer runtimes.”
