Ringtones, for some, are an extension of their personality. In addition to their pimped out
cell or
smartphone, ringtones sometimes “make” the phone for their user. The only downfall with ringtones is that the user hasn’t gotten to choose where their song starts and ends.
This is usually done by the companies who market the ringtones. But now, thanks to mSpot the 12 seconds into
"I Kissed a Girl" when
Katy Perry sings about the moment she "got so brave;" or 1:30 into
"Heartless" when
Kanye West raps to his lover, "How could you be so Dr. Evil?" can now become your ringtone!
"We know people want more selection than the pre-set ringtones already offered by carriers and artists," said mSpot CEO Daren Tsui. "mSpot's new editing tool means music fans now have an infinite number of ringtone possibilities to choose from to make their phones more personalized than ever before."
Mobile music and entertainment company mSpot has introduced
mSpot.com, a mobile music site that lets users personalize their phones by turning their favorite part of any song, up to 30 seconds long, into a ringtone.
Choose from mSpot's catalog of over 400,000 titles, and by using the site's editing tool to drag the start and end points to capture up to 30 seconds, even add an optional fade in and out feature at each end!. Once the highlighted piece is finalized and previewed, users save and download the cut as a ringtone for $2.99 for each customized ringtone.
There is no software to download or service to subscribe and it only takes about one minute from start to finish!
Songs include both popular and indie titles from music labels EMI, Universal Music, Warner Music, Sony Music, Ingrooves and IRIS. mSpot.com also features lyrics, artist bios, recommendations, and more for music fans.
The service is currently only accessible to AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile customers, and will soon be available to customers from other major carriers.
