Limbo, a mobile social network service, announced the immediate availability of its network in more than two hundred countries covering 3.5 billion people.
After this expansion, users can continue location sharing even while traveling abroad, making Limbo among the first location-aware social network to offer global availability.
Limbo was also among the first location-aware social networks to launch an iPhone application this July.
“Mobile social communities have no boundaries, and neither should Limbo,” stated Limbo’s CEO, Jonathon Linner. “Mobile Internet usage, text message usage and International mobile interactions are all crossing country borders while most mobile social networks remain geographically stagnant. In order for Limbo to become a part of this growing mobile landscape, we’re making our community available on an international level.”
Mobile phone users in almost any country can now join Limbo’s community through the Internet or mobile Web and broadcast where they are and what they’re doing, socialize with other members, or play games against each other. This is a significant community as number of people accessing the Internet from their mobile phone is growing rapidly and is projected to exceeded half a billion this year, according to IDC data.
Contrary to Limbo’s international expansion, Twitter and 3Jam pulled availability of their text message-based services from international markets due to mounting text message costs.
The Limbo iPhone application which was first launched this July in the U.S. and is now available in all 62 countries that support the iPhone. The application is available for download at iTunes App Store.
Limbo’s mobile social network features are available to anyone with a mobile phone from one of the countries listed at www.limbo.com or m.limbo.com.
Headquartered in Burlingame, California, Limbo is a privately held company and was founded in 2005. It has over 2.5 million members and a monthly reach of over 5 million people. The service is free as it depends on innovative mobile advertising formats for revenue.
