Ascade to Deploy Mobile Cockpit for 3 Italia

By Rajani Baburajan September 25, 2008
Ascade, a provider of routing, billing and quality solutions for the interconnect market, today announced it is offering Mobile Cockpit solution to 3 Italia, an Italian mobile operator.

To deploy Mobile Cockpit on 3 Italia networks, Ascade partnered with Elsag Datamat, an Italian information technology company and part of the Finmeccanica Group, one of the world's top industrial conglomerates, the company said.

The Mobile Cockpit solution provides mobile operators advanced quality routing, inter-operator billing and settlement and operational control over the quality of the offered traffic routes. It automates and optimizes international voice traffic management, including the analysis of the supplier carrier offers, optimal routing selection and implementation of the routing choices in the network.

Today’s interconnect environment is highly complex with a vast array of different multi-service, multi-national, multi-time zone interconnect agreements to be taken into account. With the help of flexible and effective inter-operator billing and settlement methods, mobile operators can secure their revenue for all services offered. Apart from settling the interconnect charges, they have to ensure quality for their international voice traffic. For this, the mobile operators have to select suppliers and pro-actively control the quality of the offered traffic routes.

Ascade’s Mobile Cockpit solution addresses the interconnect issues of mobile operators by enabling them to be in full control of their interconnect business. Ascade offers another software, Carrier Cockpit Suite, an interconnect solution to manage the wholesale business worldwide.

“Advanced Mobile Operators like 3 Italia are strengthening their Interconnect Business from a process and system point of view, and Ascade's Mobile Cockpit Solution is uniquely positioned to support these Mobile Operators,” said Henrik Anderberg, Ascade CEO, in a statement. “We see an increased interest from the Mobile Operators to secure quality and revenues from Interconnect.”

3 Italia is a mobile media company controlled by the Hutchison Whampoa Group. The company acquired a Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) license in Italy in 2000, commenced offering of its services in 2003 and is now the leader of the UMTS market in Italy. It offers a wide range of services, including multimedia, video communication and Internet services, besides entertainment, music, information, cinema, sport and TV on the move.
