Punchkick Interactive Joins Roundbox to Develop Mobile Datacast Applications

By Shamila Janakiraman September 11, 2008
Roundbox announced that Punchkick Interactive, a full service mobile marketing firm has joined the Roundbox Developer Program. The collaboration involves the development of Flash-enabled mobile datacast applications which delivers real time news, weather, sports and financial information to mobile devices.

The Active Wallpaper application developed by Punchkick makes use of the Roundbox Mobile Datacast Solution which delivers frequently updated content streams over broadcast and Flash Lite. This offers an exciting, graphically rich client interface for consumption of content.

“This application is just one example of the benefits of a collaborative developer ecosystem,” said Jon Schlegel, datacast product manager at Roundbox. “Drawing upon the expertise of both companies, we were able to rapidly deliver compelling mobile applications and look forward to working with Punchkick on future projects.”

Zak Dabbas, co-founder and managing partner of Punchkick Interactive emphasized that the combination of Flash and mobile broadcast technology produces an amazing application which is both informative and entertaining. Being a mobile application developer, Punchkick makes use of the real-time broadcast information for making applications more relevant to the mobile community.

Active Wallpaper is like a “homepage” application offering users real-time news, sports and weather information on the screen of the mobile devices. It does not poll for information updates but passively accesses broadcast networks for new information. This allows the application to scale several subscribers without consuming more bandwidth.

The Roundbox Mobile Datacast Solution is an end-to-end multi-bearer platform which enables the creation and deploying of datacast applications. The system allows application developers to use a high level and convenient set of APIs for building services fast. This enables developers to benefit from the power of the broadcast helping to focus on new applications instead of bothering about the intricacies of broadcast networks.

Roundbox provides mobile broadcast solutions for mobile operators and handset manufacturers. Mobile operators will be able to offer their consumers innovative services using the next generation broadcast networks such as mobile TV, emergency notification, radio and data services delivered continuously and with breakthrough economics.

Punchkick Interactive is a design firm involved in full-service mobile marketing. The company produces text-message campaigns, mobile games, Flash Lite content, mobile Web sites, custom iPhone, Windows Mobile and Java ME applications and Bluetooth marketing campaigns besides others.
