Verizon Wireless has introduced City ID, a new tool to help subscribers manage their communications. City ID is an enhanced mobile Caller ID application which displays the city and state of incoming calls.
City ID automatically displays the city and state where an incoming phone number is registered. In addition, it also provides additional information to help Verizon Wireless customers recognize unknown numbers.
Currently, this latest offering from Verizon Wireless is available on Voyager by LG. Last year in October, the company unveiled LG Electronics' Voyager along with three new mobile phones.
Exclusively offered by Verizon Wireless, Voyager has a large external touch screen that also slides open sideways for a full Qwerty keypad. This handset is equipped with multimedia capabilities such as HTML Web browser; V Cast mobile TV, video, and music service; and the ability to play MP3, WMA, and unprotected AAC files.
City ID comes preloaded on new Voyagers, and existing customers of Voyagers will need to update the device. Verizon Wireless customers purchasing the Voyager will now receive a complimentary 15-day trial of the City ID application beginning with their first incoming call, according to company officials.
An application from Cequint, City ID features information on more than 20,000 cities in North America. Company officials said that it provides “enough detail” to be useful identifying numbers calling from both across town and across the country.
Verizon Wireless expects to offer City ID on additional devices in the coming months.
Verizon Wireless operates wireless voice and data network reportedly serving 68.7 million customers. The company is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone.
The company also announced that its customers have more options to personalize their wireless experience with new applications that let them create content to be listened to, shared and enjoyed on their mobile phones.
ToneMaker from Sonic Boom lets its customers become a music producer by adding and layering their own vocals to pre-recorded beats and music elements, while the YouTones from FunMobility enables Verizon Wireless customers to create mobile audio media in the form of ringtones or audio messages.
The mSpot Make-UR-Tones application allows users to create customized ringtones from a catalog of over 250,000 full-tracks.
These applications, according to the company, maximize the voice record features on certain mobile devices, giving customers the ability to customize their own content and make a statement with their wireless phones.
