Samsung Mobile Installs Charging Stations at Newark Airport

By Anil Sharma August 25, 2008
Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) has installed 50 charging stations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The charging stations are outfitted with four outlets per station, allowing several travelers to re-charge their personal electronic devices designed for U.S. voltage (i.e., 120 volts), and are also equipped with a small shelf to hold travelers’ mobile phones and other electronic equipment.

Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) of New Jersey will provide electricity for all 50 charging stations at Newark Liberty International.

“Samsung Mobile Charging Stations are designed to give travelers an easy way to keep their phones, laptops and other gadgets charged while on-the-go,” said Bill Ogle, chief marketing officer of Samsung Mobile, in a statement.  “With the summer travel season in full-swing, we expect the charging stations to be a big a hit at one of nation’s busiest airports, Newark Liberty International.”

Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC, a Dallas-based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., researches, develops and markets wireless handsets and telecommunications products throughout North America.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a global player in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with 2007 consolidated sales of US$103.4 billion.

“Following the successful implementation of the Samsung Mobile Charging Stations in five major US airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, LaGuardia International Airport, Orlando International Airport, and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, JCDecaux is very pleased to announce another alliance with Samsung Mobile to implement this program at Newark Liberty International Airport. Samsung Mobile has the unique opportunity to reach and engage with 222 million passengers annually,” said Jean-Luc Decaux, Co-CEO of JCDecaux NA.

JCDecaux continues to grow and to innovate, venturing into new markets and investing in research and development.
