Commerce Casino Deploys Extricom VoWLAN System

By Anil Sharma July 01, 2008
Commerce Casino has deployed a casino-wide voice over wireless local area network (VoWLAN) solution built on Extricom's Interference-Free WLAN system.

The WiFi system implemented in conjunction with system integrator Teldata provides WiFi voice service utilizing SpectraLink phones. Teldata managed the implementation, maneuvering around the ongoing casino operations without interrupting a single hand of cards at the casino.

Thanks to Extricom’s channel blanket technology, the system was designed in a rapid and straight-forward manner, with no channelization, IP networking, or coverage overlap or interference analysis required by other solutions.

“For our employees, wherever they are on the floor, that's where their office is,” said Ralph Wong, chief administrative officer at Commerce Casino, in a statement. “Instant, reliable, and mobile connectivity is therefore essential to our staff. It's critical that our solution give them the ability to roam freely while still being able to take live calls, which is key to good customer service.”

Wong continued: “We selected the Extricom system because it gives us the highest quality of voice service available. At the same time, their multi-layer architecture makes the solution future-proof, giving us the ability to add a wide range of other applications, operating in parallel with voice communications, without performance trade-offs.”

Commerce Casino's complex encompasses 238,000 square feet, all of which required uninterrupted coverage and the call capacity to handle even the most congested areas. At the same time, the system needed to be robust enough to ensure no dropped calls, in spite of the interference-prone environment of the pit floor, where a variety of wireless devices and signal-producing equipment would be jostling for the same airspace.

“Early on, Commerce Casino saw the potential for wireless to transform on-premise workplace communications,” said Dan Kirtchuk, Extricom's executive vice-president of global sales, in a statement. “And their implementation of Extricom's next-generation WLAN provides clear evidence that secure, robust, toll-grade WiFi telephony is possible now.”

Extricom is a provider of enterprise-class wireless LAN infrastructure solutions for converged voice (VoWLAN), data, video and location-based services. Its Interference-Free architecture, based on Channel Blanket technology, enables dramatically easier WLAN deployment and lower total cost of ownership, while achieving a generational leap in capacity, coverage, seamless mobility and security performance for WiFi.
The result is a large-scale, 802.11 standards-based WLAN infrastructure with the dependability of a wired network.
