Palringo, a messaging service leveraging the advanced possibilities of PC-based instant messaging (IM) services (including voice and picture messages), to mobile devices, announced the launch of a software client for BlackBerry smartphones from Research In Motion (RIM).
The new rich messaging service from Palringo is available for the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry 8800 series smartphones. It enables users of these devices to chat using voice, picture messages, and simple text.
A single interface by Palringo lets users interact with the other people via a variety of PC-based IM services, like AOL’s AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk. They can do this all either while sitting at a computer, tapping with a smartphone or Pocket PC stylus, or using a BlackBerry.
Palringo enables a user to have all his contacts from various services integrated into one combined, presence-aware list, so that he doesn’t have to browse through various IM tools. It offers a dynamic “vocal instant messaging” too, that provides live voice chat, the real-time text functionality of IM and the ability to share pictures among friends.
The user can set up an unlimited number of groups under this service by Palringo, to send a voice, text, or picture message to all group members at once. The recipients need not belong to the same wireless network, and can be existing upon any network. The services offered by Palringo are totally cost-free, whereas other wireless-carrier-supplied text messaging services charge for each recipient and in some cases per message. Palringo can be used either through a mobile data plan or WiFi
access, and the service’s instant messages take up very small amounts of data, further cutting down the cost.
The service by Palringo is available globally, enabling users from any part of the world, on any mobile network or connected PC interact with each other, hence making it useful for the multi-national corporate users or extended family use.
Kerry Ritz, CEO at Palringo, said that as users increasingly expect to take their applications with them wherever they go, they also expect to pack them into fewer devices, and Palringo has increased messaging reach and depth for the greatest number of users by putting its rich messaging service on the BlackBerry platform. Ritz said that this service by the company also reduces the number of installed applications users need to have on their mobile device or PC.
The Palringo’s Rich Messaging Service for BlackBerry smartphones can be downloaded for free at its Web site, and the service complies with Windows Mobile, Symbian and Java-based clients, including devices from Nokia, Motorola, LG, Samsung, HTC and Sony Ericsson.
Palringo is a service that is dedicated to make IM work on mobile devices. The walkie-talkie style voice and the real-time text chat feature of IM are integrated in this service along with the ability to share pictures with the users upon other IM services.
