Altobridge and AeroMobile Team on In-flight Personal Mobile Phone Service

By Jai C.S. April 01, 2008
Altobridge, a company that enables cost effective communications in remote areas, introduced an in-flight personal mobile phone service, delivered by AeroMobile aboard an Emirates Airline flight on March 20. Altobridge’s AM Gateway Platform was the core technology used.

AeroMobile delivers a comprehensive solution to airlines and aircraft operators looking to offer in-flight mobile communications services.

Bjorn-Taale Sandberg, Chief Executive Officer of AeroMobile Limited, said that Altobridge’s technology is integral to the AeroMobile system and provides the company with unique capabilities in the aviation marketplace.

He also mentioned that the Altobridge AM Gateway Platform enables AeroMobile and its airline customers to benefit from the highest level of service with minimal use of aircraft satellite links.

“We are thrilled that Aeromobile and Emirates have reached this major, historical milestone for both the wireless and aviation industries and that our core technology lies at the heart of this success,” said Altobridge Chief Executive Officer, Mike Fitzgerald, in a statement.

Remote Contiguous Communications Unit (RCC) is a solution from Altobridge that has the capability to provide emergency first responder and humanitarian applications with their own private networks, or extend existing networks to these locations, providing standard, cost-effective communications. By combining the AM Gateway Platform and the Altobridge RCC Unit, issues like interoperability, coverage, capacity, mobility and power can be managed.

The company will showcase this portable wireless solution at the CTIA, 2008 in addition to displaying its Local Connectivity solution, which enables switching of communications traffic to take place locally at the base station in any network.  Altobridge has been selected as the finalist for this solution in the category of ‘Most Innovative New Design Concept’ for Andrew Seybold Choice Awards 2008.

At CTIA, Monte Egeland, Altobridge Vice President, North America, added, “This great in-flight success is testimony to the technology that powers the RCC solution for the emergency/first responder market.”
