MachineMetrics Releases SOTI Report for IIoT and CNC Machining

By Arti Loftus January 06, 2020

As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to evolve and mature, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) or Industry 4.0 space is thriving. Companies continue to look for ways to remain relevant and competitive in an increasingly complex manufacturing environment in addition to today’s globalized economy. IIoT momentum has allowed manufacturers to leverage an increasing amount of resources to drive their decisions.

MachineMetrics, a data analytics platform for manufacturers, recently released its 2019 State of the Industry (SOTI) for CNC Machining. This research was derived from real manufacturing data, which was collected from hundreds of companies and thousands of machines worldwide. The company said its report confirms the feelings of many in the manufacturing industry and uncovers many manufacturing behaviours and trends that have never before been reported.

“Our unique ability to easily connect to any machine has allowed the MachineMetrics platform to quickly gain tremendous traction and aggregate what we believe is the most powerful global dataset of machine performance in the world. We can now use this data to provide the highest level of insight back to our customers, partners, and the manufacturing community,” said Bill Bither, CEO, MachineMetrics. “We are excited to continue to break new ground for the industry as a whole.”

MachineMetrics provides an IIoT Platform for Machines. Its features include universal machine connectivity, IoT cloud data infrastructure, and capable vertical applications allowing the overhaul of legacy manufacturing processes from the insights gathered and turn them into actions that can help to drive more profitability with their manufacturing equipment.

“We implemented MachineMetrics to deepen our connection to the machine and the data,” says Jonathan Bicknell, Technology Manager, Turbocam International, “The data will always be honest. We might tell ourselves we are the best but having actual benchmarking data that positions us amongst our peers allows us to back this notion up. Our question now is no longer where do we stand, but how do we increase our percentile while maintaining employee health - this could justify further automation.”

"Our hundreds of customers have been using MachineMetrics to drive performance and reduce unplanned downtime. We are thrilled to make freely available the industry's first benchmarking study into the CNC Machining market that leverages real-time machine data from thousands of machines. Individual benchmarking results are sent to each customer on a regular basis to help them make key business decisions, but this study looks at the industry as a whole," Said Bither.
