Asteelflash Makes Silicon Valley Factory Smart

By Ken Briodagh November 01, 2017

In a recent announcement, Asteelflash has said it will implement a pilot program at its Fremont, California manufacturing facility targeted towards the Smart Factory. The company is an international electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company, founded in 1999. It operates 18 manufacturing sites on 4 continents and employs about 6,000 people across the group. Asteelflash serves high-technology companies around the world in a wide range of market segments, including Industrial, Energy Management, Data Processing, Defense & Aerospace, Transportation (Automotive and Railway), and Medical.

Factory Automation reportedly will be the first step in the new pilot program, with the installation of collaborative robots and connected equipment generating real time data. The company said it will next use its proprietary supply chain platform to combine artificial intelligence and machine learning to leverage that data.

This program is part of a global initiative across the company’s 18 locations, and the goal is that it will change the way products are currently being built, increase productivity and ultimately strengthen its customers’ competitiveness.

By making automation its strategic focus, Asteelflash said it strives to improve the processes and enhance productivity while using its teams on more advanced projects, moving away from the idea of manufacturing as execution and toward a sequence of smart and optimized processes.

“Fremont facility is definitively a strategic location,” said Albert Yanez Sr., Corporate EVP, Asteelflash Group and President, Asteelflash Americas. “We want to be as close as possible from the Silicon Valley to stay at the edge of the innovation and bring our customer the best solution to their needs. The Smart Factory initiative is definitively a way to provide a better service to our customers but also to rationalize our processes and build intelligence around it.”
