Penta Releases Security Solutions Tailored to Smart Factories

By Ken Briodagh May 01, 2017

At Automation World 2017 in South Korea, a three-day expo dedicated to the latest developments in Industry 4.0 and IIoT, Penta Security Systems, a provider of Web, IoT, and data security solutions and services, showcased its smart factory security solution “Penta Smart Factory Security.” The company also unveiled its smart metering security solution and connected car security solution, AutoCrypt. Penta Security is the top cyber security vendor in Asia, as recognized by Frost & Sullivan, and APAC market share leader in the WAF industry.

In Industry 4.0, which relies on IoT and increasingly powers the manufacturing sectors, the topic of Smart Factory security has become critical. Because security threats in a traditional IT environment can also apply to Smart Factory environments, successful hacking attempts can cause interruptions or malfunctions in the manufacturing process, which in turn can result in tremendous economic losses.

In April 2016, the Japanese government, in cooperation with Germany, set a goal to launch 50 smart factories throughout the country by 2020. Penta Smart Factory Security is designed to provide both software and hardware-type encryption modules to improve the security of IoT devices in smart factories. It includes enhanced device authentication with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) that supports mutual authentication, ensuring a secure communication environment for connected factory equipment.

To raise awareness in Asia of the need for IoT security solutions with next-level technology, Penta Security participated in the AWS Summit Seoul 2017, and also plans to exhibit its solutions at Automotive World 2018 in Tokyo.

“Because all Smart Factory systems are automated, data and equipment security should receive the highest priority,” said DS Kim, Chief Strategy Officer, Penta Security Systems. “As a leading provider of IoT security technology, we plan on partnerships with key players in the industry in order to distribute and optimize our security solutions for safe application in various Smart Factory conditions.”
