MiX Telematics Intros MiX Mobile Tracking Solution for Apple iPhone

By Raja Singh Chaudhary December 07, 2009
MiX Telematics, a provider of fleet management and vehicle tracking solutions, has reportedly launched MiX Mobile, its vehicle tracking application that will support the Apple iPhone.

The company is one of the initial players in the Telematics industry to release vehicle tracking technology for the iPhone. It previously installed its fleet management and vehicle tracking solutions within more than 500 000 units in the world, and is now getting into the mobile application market.

The platform is available in Apple iTunes stores, and will offer an innovative solution to the customers for giving them more control than ever before. Leveraging the solution, users can track their vehicles regardless of their location, in order to keep tabs on their vehicles even when a computer is not available. MiX Mobile provides a number of features that leverage the iPhone technology in an enhanced manner. It deploys the iPhone screen in an optimal way in order to make all the vehicles available in the status view, giving their accurate speed and exact location.

The customers can also pinch and stretch the view as they usually do within an iPhone, in order to zoom in and out on maps that include street, satellite and hybrid views. The can view all vehicles on one map or individually, and follow them in real-time. The built in GPS functionality of the iPhone helps them determine the phone’s position relative to a specific vehicle.

The Mix Mobile gives regular updates to the customers via text messages, in order to let them track a vehicle directly to make them aware of the vehicle while it is in transit. The commercial users find it useful as they are able to cut costs by keeping track of their vehicle drivers. The solution features a trip report functionality, which display the total mileage a vehicle has driven within the past 48 hours. To inform consumers about the entire route, the trips are plotted on a map within the report.

The MiX Mobile solution is available for X-Drive and FM Protector products in South Africa and the United Kingdom respectively. Details are available at http://mixmobile.mixtelematics.com.

In August, MiX Telematics had been confirmed as an approved supplier to Sweden-based truck, bus, coach and engine manufacturer Scania, covering MiX Telematics' flagship FM Communicator product, which leads fleet managers toward a wide range of “operational” and “efficiency” benefits via capture and analysis of vehicle- and driver-related performance data.
