Anglia Components Launches M2M Communications Division

By Rajani Baburajan October 15, 2009
Anglia Components, an independent component distributor in the United Kingdom, has launched the company’s machine-to-machine, or “M2M,” communications division to address the growing needs of the M2M market.

The newly launched M2M division offers embedded wireless communications modules and components supporting all of the major wireless communications standards in common use for M2M communications today, company officials said.

Anglia M2M division is supported by a line-up of 15 market leading suppliers including Cinterion, Fastrax and Ember. While Cinterion offers Global System for Mobile Communications, or “GSM,” and General Packet Radio Services, or “GPRS,” modules, Fastrax offers GPS products.

In September, Anglia and Fastrax signed the franchise agreement where Anglia agreed to give away Fastrax Evaluation Kits worth about $9,600 to selected customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Ember is offering the ZigBee technology, a low-cost, low-power, wireless mesh networking proprietary standard. The low cost allows the technology to be widely deployed in WiFo, WiMAX, Bluetooth, and Ethernet solutions as well as powerline communications and other supporting products.

The M2M communications suite from Anglia also includes a complete range of antennas from CTi and Antenova.

Anglia offers these integrated technologies with in-depth technical and logistical support. In addition to these, Anglia M2M offers Data SIMcard and tailor-made airtime solutions.

John Bowman will head the new Anglia M2M communications division as the new divisional marketing manager. He is supported by a team of five communications specialists who will work with customers across the portfolio of technologies offered by the distributor.

“M2M communications is a key element to many of the markets that are growing today - and where Anglia customers are already being successful,” Bowman said. “These include smart energy, remote monitoring, security, asset tracking, e-health and cashless payment.”

Anglia M2M has put in place a substantial stock profile across all its franchises, allowing it to offer ex-stock delivery of most development kit and sample requirements, officials said.
