Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., a wireless communications service provider dedicated exclusively to the machine-to-machine or ‘M2M’ and telematics marketplace in North America, has announced that CC864-DUAL, its CDMA-1XRTT dual-band cellular M2M communications module, has been awarded certification on the Aeris wireless network in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Apart from this certification, Telit and Aeris have also entered a partnership for a developer program lasting two months that will radically decrease time-to-market and optimize performance of M2M applications on the Aeris network.
Under the program, Telit customers will be able to utilize the Aeris cellular network for application development free of charge for 60 days. They will also be able to access Aeris’ AerPort web portal, which offers real-time network and device information that is crucial for design processes. The CC864-DUAL by Telit is the first CDMA-1XRTT wireless module that the company has designed specifically for North America.
The module shares its form factor, function and AT command set with the GSM/GPRS and UMTS/HSDPA developed by Telit, and will help the integrators and OEMs to seamlessly swap modules without costly redesigns when utilizing multiple cellular networks. Leveraging the new module, the M2M application developers will be able to design an application only once and take advantage of the most prevalent cellular technologies worldwide, including GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSDPA and CDMA-1xRTT.
The Telit CC864-DUAL features a very compact design, and operates quite well within a temperature range of -30° C to 80°C. The module offers a perfect platform for medium-to-high-volume M2M applications and mobile data and computing devices.
The module also comprises of gpsOne capability for applications in mobile environments such as telematics, personal and asset tracking. In addition, it enables over-the-air maintenance and management of software within the module to protect customer investments.
In a release, Michael Ueland, vice president and general manager of Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., said both companies share a likeminded commitment to minimizing the various hurdles developers face when bringing M2M applications to market. He added that Telit’s new developer program offers a very comprehensive toolkit and unsurpassed customer service to help developers through the necessary network certifications so they can focus on the design of the application and launching their product faster.
Mark Cratsenburg, vice president of sales, Aeris Communications, said that Telit’s dependable M2M module technology combined with Aeris’ unique network infrastructure promises optimized performance for M2M applications throughout North America, providing the customers key market advantages of reliable data delivery and lower overall cost.
In September 2008,
Trackn/Enfotrace selected Telit’s cellular M2M technology for incorporation into their line of location based service or ‘LBS’ applications.
More recently, in October this year
Microspace Communication Corporation selected Aeris Communications’ enhanced CDMA network for monitoring and managing its digital signage networks in conjunction with its broadband satellite content delivery network.
