Qualcomm Appoints Alex Rogers as EVP and President of QTL

Qualcomm Incorporated has announced its promotion of Alex Rogers to Executive Vice President (EVP) and President of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL), the company’s semiconductor business, effective immediately.

Rogers has been in charge of QTL since March, and in this role he will be responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of QTL, including management of the division’s day-to-day operations.

“As we continue to expand our licensing business, including new growth areas such as the Internet of Things, Alex will be a valuable addition to our executive leadership team,” said Derek Aberle, president, Qualcomm Incorporated. “He has demonstrated strong leadership and delivered solid results for QTL, including driving the conclusion of new license agreements with key OEMs in China.”

He’s been with the company for 15 years, and during his tenure at Qualcomm, Rogers has been is several leadership positions, with a focus on IP and commercial litigation matters. In 2007, Rogers was promoted to SVP and, since then, has been leading Qualcomm’s litigation department, most recently as senior vice president and deputy general counsel. He has applied his legal and business experience to managing intellectual property, regulatory and commercial litigation matters for the company.

Prior to joining Qualcomm in 2001, Rogers was a partner with the law firm of Gray, Cary, Ware & Friedenrich (now DLA Piper), where he specialized in intellectual property litigation for technology companies and also represented companies outside of the tech sector. Rogers holds a Juris Doctorate, master’s degree in literature and a Bachelor of Arts degree, all from Georgetown University.

Qualcomm is a world leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation wireless technologies. The Qualcomm group includes the company’s licensing business, QTL, and the vast majority of its patent portfolio. Qualcomm Technologies operates, along with its subsidiaries, substantially all of Qualcomm's engineering, research and development functions, and substantially all of its products and services businesses, including its semiconductor business, QCT.
