Monnit Brings Wireless Integration to M2M Networks

By Ken Briodagh July 10, 2015

Wireless has to work. It’s pretty simple. If communications between smart devices can’t work over the air, then we all probably ought to just go home and have a sandwich.

One of the companies chasing that dragon is Monnit Corporation, which on July 9 announced its new Monnit Mine solution. The company said that Mine enables IoT functions by enabling integration of wireless sensors networks with customers’ existing or custom software systems by providing a translation layer between the two.

“End-user interfaces to the Internet of Things will be through custom and diverse software applications. As such, industry-leading sensors need to communicate freely with those applications,” said Brad Walters, CEO, Monnit Corporation. “Decoupling the data from ‘the thing’ is essential to the exponential evolution of the Internet of Things.”

Some of Mine’s key features include a built-in API in standard programming languages for easy integration, a fully functional sample application with source included, strong encryption algorithms for better security and available licenses for customer-specific applications.

Mine is designed to work with Monnit’s set of more than 48 different wireless sensor types, wireless control and robust, reliable wireless gateways, which are available in commercial and industrial platforms. Monnit enables users to remotely monitor information and activities such as temperature, access, presence of water, light, humidity, vibration, movement and much more.

Weaning technology off the wire is critical, and with this kind of innovation, it can’t be too much farther off. We can hope.
