International communications company Ooredoo launched on March 3 through subsidiary Indosat, an Indonesian telecom operator, an all-new M2M platform in Indonesia. The cloud-based Ericsson Device Connection Platform (DCP) will allow local users to connect with a faster-than-ever level of support and service, especially with respect to the brand’s plans for increased implementation of smart city technologies, mainly in key areas of infrastructure, environmental issues and governance. This launch is the first of four planned deployments by Ooredoo of Ericsson’s platform, with Qatar, Algeria and Tunisia scheduled to follow this year.
Indosat has a clear strategy to leverage IoT and M2M technology in Indonesia to drive business growth in the banking, transportation, energy, and public services sectors through smart city planning. This initiative is a key step in achieving that goal, and ties in with the company’s extensive range of IoT and M2M products and services.
“One of Indosat's missions is to provide products and services which enhance the quality of the communities we operate in,” said Alexander Rusli, President, Director and CEO, Indosat. “Our commitment extends further to promise delivery of the best business customer experience through these services. By partnering to provide best M2M products and solutions we have realized one of our missions and commitments here in Indonesia."
The Ericsson DCP is designed to offer connectivity management to enterprise customers and enable operators to address new revenue streams from a vast variety of devices while simplifying the process and reducing the costs. The basic offering of the platform includes: hardware, software, the right to use licenses, service portals and APIs for operators and enterprises and solution analysis providing advice to the operator.
“We are proud to offer this cutting-edge technology solution,” said Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo. “This launch is the first in a series of group-wide innovations that will deliver better results for businesses. Additionally the platform will play a key role in speeding up the implementation of smart city technologies, supporting our customer's Connected Lives and helping develop smarter economies in the markets that we operate."
Ooredoo’s goal with this execution of M2M is to demonstrate its commitment to using its bigger, faster network to provide next-generation services to customers across its footprint. The company is already working with a number of leading organizations to support the development of smart cities and has signed a strategic alliance with KT Corporation of Korea to introduce new concepts and innovations.
“M2M will enable the full potential of our vision of the Networked Society, where everything that benefits from being connected will be connected,” said Thomas Jul, Head of Ericsson Indonesia and Timor Leste. “With Indosat we will explore the opportunities that will arise with M2M and empower people, business and society in Indonesia.”
