Never let it be said that Amazon doesn’t understand the retail market. The online storefront has announced it is moving to take advantage of the growing popularity of the wearable tech market by opening a new online section of the site that would cater exclusively to these wearable devices put out by companies like Samsung, Jawbone and GoPro.
By launching this particular section of the site, it will make it that much easier for Amazon.com shoppers to find what they are looking for and research wearable tech in order to find something new they didn’t even know they wanted. Amazon says the site won’t just be a place where people can find brands that are already among the most popular in the market.
This site will also carry a whole host of items from companies that are still trying to find their footing. Basis and Misfit as well as devices that are not out yet but are hitting the market soon from companies like Narrative and Biosnsym.
"Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices," John Nemeth, Director of Wireless and Mobile Electronics at Amazon said in a recent statement announcing the branching out. "We're thrilled to bring our customers a store with the largest selection and great prices that help eliminate the guesswork when deciding which wearable devices best fit their needs--whether that is tracking activity, staying connected through smart watches or capturing their next adventure with wearable cameras."
Wearable tech isn’t really as new as some people might believe. There have been wearable devices available for purchase for more than a decade but the market is starting to explode as we head further into the 21st century. Several companies have launched their own wearable technology projects in hopes of getting into the business. Others are working on the research aspect and still others are joining the fray simply by purchasing existing wearable tech companies and making them their own.
As far as Amazon’s wearable tech store, customers can find it easily enough by searching for category. Once they’ve found it, they can compare products and discover devices that are perfect for their needs.
