Sometimes opposites attract and sometimes they may be two sides of the same coin. I get excited when I hear about well executed plans and at the same time when experimentation leads to discovery. When I see this, it’s what I would call a, ‘Eureka’ moment. For the Steve Jobs lovers, they would call it when technology looks like magic.
The important question is where we can find these opportunities to see magic, scream Eureka, and have a Gestalt aha! or be surprised by joy?
Manfred Kube and I had a great follow-up conversation to my interview with him about Gemalto’s Concept Board.
During the first conversation, Gemalto was at the point of wanting to make sure they were delivering on the promise of the Concept Board, so the community was invitation only.
Now, they are ready to have the Concept Board, “become the Raspberry Pi of M2M.” What that means is two fold. The first is that they want to make sure the entry level for the Concept Board is priced cheaply enough that there is no restriction to entry.
The second are the community pages associated with the programming called SensorLogic.
SensorLogic supports RESTful APIs and JavaScript APIs. Of course the Concept Board works well for the Java community to use, but much of the skill set you are going to need to develop with the Concept Board will be associated with business intelligence and using the information and as such requires interaction with the systems that Restful and JavaScript can touch.
SensorLogic shows a few examples of opportunity with GeoFencing and location based services that guide the developers as to what is possible.
But more interesting than the API is the experimentation with Concept Board to discover what sensors can be worked with and added to the mix to deliver new ideas.
In a separate conversation with Venky Karappanan and Jim Balsbaugh of Teezle, we talked about the fact that often the sensors have more information than we realize.
Putting it in Physics terms, Heisenberg’s principle said it best, “the sum of the parts is never greater than the whole.”
In using the Concept Board the opportunity exists for discovery.
And in our industry that is desperately needed, because the customer’s requirements often mask the greater opportunity.
At M2M Evolution I have invited Manfred to speak on the sensor session tentatively titled “Sensors and Skunk Works.” The idea of the session is that often the opportunity to develop a well-executed plan starts with discovery.
Independent of our show though, Gemalto’s looking to embrace the Meet-Ups of the world and other community gatherings, to have them use the Concept Board. I will make the offer to attend and cover anyone who wants to take advantage of this opportunity with Gemalto (assuming travel costs are minimal).
I hope you take advantage of the Concept Board so you can have your own discoveries.
When you have your Eureka moment, let me know and I will publish your experience.
