Norsat Launches First Product in New M2M Solutions Line

By Rory Lidstone January 25, 2013

This week, Norsat International launched its new M2M Solutions line for the oil and gas industry, the first product from this line being Sentinel RMC, an all-inclusive equipment and data as a service package. Sentinel RMC offers global remote-site data monitoring through flexible communications services and real-time control by way of a Web-based interface.

Currently, this offering is designed for use in down hole well monitoring applications, but Norsat M2M Solutions are appropriate for any application that requires real-time data monitoring and control — including air and water quality monitoring and early warning weather systems.

A fully integrated end-to-end solution, Sentinel RMC includes a ruggedized remote terminal unit (RTU), communication services, hosting facilities and an easy-to-use interface for accessing data. This includes RTU features with a capable integrated processor, a data storage unit and a variety of general purpose inputs and outputs. Of course, Sentinel RMC features a number of communication service options —  satellite, cellular, terrestrial and point to point microwave — providing connectivity from anywhere in the world using the most cost-effective service for the location.

A hardened hosting facility keeps all customer data protected, while the Web-based customer portal allows customers to monitor thresholds and receive alarm notifications from practically anywhere on the planet.

"M2M Solutions are increasingly important for data collection and management from rural, urban and remote locations, and Sentinel RMC offers an efficient solution that meets the needs of down hole well monitoring as well as a variety of other applications requiring real time data monitoring and control," said Norsat's president and CEO, Dr. Amiee Chan, in a statement. "Our expertise in challenging communications applications and rugged product design make M2M solutions a very good fit for Norsat, and we look forward to better meeting our customers' needs through this new product line."

In November, Norsat launched Global-VSAT, an equipment and global airtime services package, leveraging the Norsat MarineLink line of VSAT terminals.

In October, the company launched its Satellite Locator App for Android, following the release of the same app for the iPhone by about four months.
