By Nathesh July 23, 2012

Swisscom and Ericsson, and segment leaders Telit and VARTA Microbattery, will reportedly sponsor the M2M Challenge slated to be held for the first time in 2012. The event is specifically designed to identify game-changing applications in the world of M2M, including energy and smart grid, automotive and transport, security and surveillance, healthcare and wellness, and consumer electronics.

The M2M Challenge is stated to be an innovative competition, open to all participants from the M2M apps community. The best solutions in each category will be promoted internationally through the marketing channels of the challenge’s sponsors and partners.

Event sponsors have indicated that M2M apps membership is a requirement for participation in the M2M Challenge. M2M apps membership is free for registration and can be done online. Membership requirement for participation in the M2M Challenge, however, is for college and university students only.

The M2M Challenge is seen as an opportunity for developers, entrepreneurs and companies from all over the world to win attractive prizes, network with thought leaders, and gain instant mind share in the fascinating and fast-growing M2M market.

The challenge kicked off on July 9 and registration portal will be open for submissions up to December 31, 2012. An international panel of experts has been appointed to weigh the various solutions that submitted for evaluation. Awards will be announced at CeBIT 2013, with the first prize winner destined to get $5,000 in cash and all finalists the opportunity to present their solutions to a global audience of both industry professionals and media representatives.

Judges are required to evaluate solutions in light of new consumer demands, new technologies and new ways of connecting the Internet of Things.
