By leveraging the embedded multi-mode international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) SIM, developed by RACO Wireless, OnAsset Intelligence was able to deploy its asset tracking solution around the globe.
Along with its partners, Everything Everywhere and Giesecke & Devrient, RACO Wireless was the first to launch the Multi-IMSI SIM, a chip technology that allows GSM platforms to meet some of the highly restrictive requirements of the automotive industry and other industries, where the device environment would be very challenging for a traditional plastic SIM. It is much more resistant to heat and vibration than traditional SIM designs.
RACO explained that IMSI SIM is also designed to let M2M providers keep just one global stock-keeping unit (SKU). In participating regions of the world, the SIM is smart enough to automatically select the least expensive transmission rates possible, bringing down costs. OnAsset users who employ the company’s SENTRY FlightSafe and ContainerSafe products will be able to realize significant savings on a monthly basis.
“More and more, our M2M partners are looking to expand their application beyond the U.S.,” stated John Horn, president of RACO Wireless. “However, the lack of visibility into and control over transmission costs where the device is located at any given time has been a risk factor. With our embedded multi-IMSI SIM device, M2M applications can be easily and cost-effectively deployed globally without any compromises. Bottom line, this saves enterprises a lot of money and a lot of headaches in finding the least-expensive way for devices to communicate information and data.”
OnAsset said its SENTRY FlightSafe device is used in commercial aircraft, and when the plane lands in any area of the world it was not able to select the network the device was roaming over and the company faced with larger wireless bills and operational complexities. But the embedded multi-mode IMSI SIM is stated to have brought tremendous relief to OnAsset and helped it overcome all the aforementioned difficulties.
RACO Wireless will represent a conference and expo in Texas as a gold sponsor for M2M players industry-wide.
