Novatel Wireless Expands M2M Module Portfolio

By Arvind Arora January 13, 2012

Market demand for machine-to-machine (M2M0 solutions has been consistently increasing worldwide, with more and more enterprises looking at automating and streamlining their operational procedures. This phenomenon has been compelling developers to come up with advanced products that can allow the companies to implement M2M strategies in a convenient and smooth manner.

Novatel Wireless, Inc., a provider of enhanced wireless solutions based on 2G, 3G and 4G technologies for wireless connectivity, has introduced two new modules based upon advanced chipsets and featuring future-proof design and capabilities. They will enable the company to expand its M2M module portfolio, which now offers support for CDMA2000 1X and HSDPA technologies.

The San Diego, Calif.-based company offers a wide range of wireless solutions to carriers, distributors, retailers, OEMs and vertical markets -- some of which are Intelligent Mobile Hotspot products, software, USB modems, embedded modules and smart M2M modules.

Named Enabler HS 3001 for 1X and HS 3002 for HSDPA, the two new modules by Novatel Wireless have been developed upon the competent design of the Enfora Enabler series. The CDMA2000 1X and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA low power platforms developed by Novatel Wireless are well known for offering cutting-edge performance, connectivity and device intelligence to address the challenges being faced by latest M2M applications. Enterprises belonging to a range of sectors such as security, telemetry, POS, mHealth, AVL and AMI/AMR that prefer to adopt a common design through various technology platforms, find these solutions particularly helpful.

“Our proven form factor is compatible across CDMA2000 1X, GSM/GPRS, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA modules, allowing manufacturers tremendous flexibility and versatility in developing and deploying solutions targeting global markets,” commented Rob Hadley, chief marketing officer at Novatel Wireless. “Our common 100-pin connector and modular architecture is shared across these platforms and optionally powered by a programmable rules engine. We are focused on ease of migration with a proven architecture that supports rapid product development, robustness in the field, and scalability as our customers’ needs grow.”

Both the newly launched platforms offer full compliance to the N4A Communications and Management Software or ‘CMS’ solution, an advanced service delivery platform by Novatel Wireless. Enterprises can provision, monitor and configure their devices through this efficient CMS solution in a remote manner, irrespective of their global location. The product features a scalable, modular architecture to enable rapid development and deployment of applications, so that the enterprises can access their vital data at any point of time, right from their remote locations.
