Trimble Joins nPhase ONE Developer Program to Utilize Verizon's Mobile Broadband Network for Its Connected Farm Solution

By Carolyn J Dawson October 12, 2011

Trimble Agriculture, provider of precision agriculture and guidance solutions, has signed into the nPhase ONE developer program, which will enable it to leverage the mobile broadband network from Verizon Wireless to provide support for its Trimble Connected Farm deployment solution. By singing into the nPhase ONE M2M development platform, Trimble Agriculture's back-office systems, applications and its customer systems will be enhanced with advanced M2M management capabilities. The integration will allow Trimble to deploy Unified Web Services APIs across mobile broadband networks from Verizon and Vodafone on a "need to use" basis.

In a release, Steve Pazol, president of nPhase, said, "Trimble is a clear leader in enabling a whole new generation of 'smart farms.' They provide an excellent example of how our respective companies are working together in solving important business and societal needs of today and tomorrow through advanced M2M. We are pleased to have them join nPhase at the 2011 CTIA Enterprise & Applications show to demonstrate the Trimble Connected Farm solution and the value delivered by nPhase and Verizon."

Trimble Agriculture's Connected Farm Strategy has been developed for enabling deployment of wireless connections for enhancement of farm based operations. The Connected Farm solution will allow farmers to easily locate their assets and help them optimize scheduling of time based farming tasks such as planting and harvesting of corps, pest control, as well as to deliver tasks from their PC's to the cab of machines. Farmers will also be benefit from automatic record archiving in the back office to help support maintenance of records and bills.

Ian Harley, business area director for Ag Information Management, said, "The Trimble Connected Farm solution is designed for deployment in rural areas where cellular coverage has traditionally been spotty. The Verizon Wireless network provides the best possible coverage for our target markets. This advantage, combined with nPhase advanced M2M capabilities, places Trimble Agriculture in a strong position to effectively and efficiently solve for the complex dynamic needs of our agriculture customers."

The Verizon Wireless certified Trimble DCM-300C modem, a communication device, has been designed to support both measurement and transmission capabilities of machines, to enable wireless synchronisation of critical and accurate Ag data like instructions to the office, in addition to providing precise sub-inch GPS corrections supporting machine control and guidance. The DCM-300C when mounted on a machine via a power source provides effecting machine tracking as well as reporting of machine movement.
