Mobile satellite service company Iridium Communications has signed collaboration agreements with five new value-added partners in order to market its data solutions for the mobile machine-to-machine (M2M) sector.
Along with the partnership agreements, the company also forged its first-ever consumer Iridium short-burst data (SBD) relationship, which is supposed to open up numerous customer opportunities. The company explained that collaboration with well-established, world-class partners will spearhead its growth, and solidify its market leadership, in transportation, industrial, security, consumer and other higher-volume sectors. The new value-added partners are going to leverage Iridium's global, low-latency, two-way satellite data links and its next-generation Iridium 9602 SBD transceiver to create innovative, low-cost M2M solutions for broad-based government, commercial and consumer markets.
IoTevolutionworld reported that an Iridium value-added reseller (VAR) is a company that provides a total wireless data solution for an end customer. They integrate all hardware and software for both the remote device as well as the back office/host computer system. VARs also directly sell Iridium Satellite Data Services with their solution. Iridium directly supports Iridium VARs with technical information.
The new partners are ACR Electronics, DeLorme, Digi International, KORE Telematics and Xact Technology.
ACR Electronics deals in safety and survival products for marine, aviation and military markets. DeLorme provides breakthrough mapping and GPS solutions for both consumer and professional markets while Digi International is a developer of wireless M2M solutions. Communications services provider KORE Telematics, with this partnership with Iridium, will integrate satellite connectivity to its PRiSMPro platform expanding services capabilities. Xact Technology is a supplier for the GPS tracking, Location-Based Services (LBS) and M2M industries.
"With these partnerships, Iridium is aligning itself with best-of-breed companies that are the clear market leaders in remote tracking, monitoring and control applications," said Patrick Shay, vice president of data services, Iridium. "These are industry-leading M2M companies with the expertise, customer relationships and market clout that will further accelerate market growth for Iridium's satellite data business."
Iridium’s new partnership agreements with major mobile data industry players are alleged to have the capacity to further accelerate Iridium's already rapid growth in the M2M sector. It is now well positioned to capture a significant share of the market for low-data-rate mobile satellite devices.
