A division of EMS Technologies, Inc., EMS Global Tracking announced the selection of its personal tracker solution by one of the world’s leading international information services companies.
In a recent press release, a global telematics leader, EMS Global Tracking announced a partnership with GeoEye, Inc. Under the agreement, this premier provider of superior satellite and aerial-based geospatial information and services will integrate the EMS Osprey personal tracker solution into the suite of solutions under their Marine Services business. The EMS solution will be used by GeoEye as a custom two-way tracking and messaging solution.
In addition, EMS will serve as GeoEye’s exclusive partner for its Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) solution to the commercial fishing fleet market. The deal requires EMS to deliver total 1,000 Osprey trackers over the next year. In the release, the company mentioned that it will start shipping the initial units immediately.
GeoEye will brand EMS’s Osprey tracker as part of the VMS and small vessel security solution within its Marine Services business, GeoEye officials informed.
Weighing approximately 12 ounces, including batteries, each Osprey unit and can be carried or mounted inside a vessel. In the release, EMS provided the detailed features of its Osprey personal tracker solution, which will help the vessels in deep sea stay connected to government agencies and fleet operators.
The Osprey personal tracker comes with a dedicated alert button that can be forwarded to the Web-based application, an SMS or e-mail.
MS has also optimized the Osprey tracker hardware and ViewPoint software to support key functions, including relaying ship position using high-resolution Web-based maps and catch reports via the IsatM2M satellite network to governments and fleet operators. The Osprey tracker can also support real-time distress alerts, with the added capability to send a message detailing the type of distress. Users have access to 450 pre-defined messages customized for fishing fleet operators.
“Today’s announcement highlights GeoEye as a key partner and customer of EMS in the maritime industry, and we are pleased to partner with them to provide reliable, global emergency communications and tracking solutions to the commercial fishing industry. We believe that GeoEye’s investment in the Osprey tracker shows that it is not just a device for personal protection, but it also can be applicable in areas like the maritime market for vessels to help fleet owners understand where their resources are at any point in time,” said EMS Global Tracking general manager, Dino Koutrouki, in a statement.
Interesting to note, GeoEye is already an EMS Global Tracking customer for drifting buoy tracking technology. The buoys, once released by fishing vessels, drift along ocean currents and transmit their locations – together with information about drift direction, speed and water temperature – back to the vessel's skipper using the OrbMap software.
Earlier this month, EMS Global Tracking appointed its new VP. The company announced in a release that as new VP of Global Sales, Simon van den Dries, will be reporting to general manager, Dino Koutrouki. In the release, the Company said that van den Dries will oversee sales operations for both direct and indirect sales in the division's eight global regions, focusing on key markets, including Government & Military, Transport and Energy.
