Meeting the Need of the Enterprise for a Global IoT Deployment

By

When it comes to enterprises deploying IoT globally, there are several issues that their service provider partners need to address to ensure a successful outcome.  Challenges include simplifying the activation process, solving for multi-geography connectivity, network complexity, security, performance limitations, and fulfilling compliance requirements.

One service provider we’ve been working with recently, floLIVE, does a good job of simplifying the process and reducing the deployment friction for enterprises launching IoT solutions.

Service providers traditionally have used roaming agreements to resolve many of these issues. But that can be prohibitive, due to the need to raise connectivity prices to compensate for the additional costs incurred. Additionally, some of the native features such as device management and other value-added services provided by the primary service provider may not be accessible when devices are roaming.

Ideally solving the problem of network complexity is accomplished by the service provider providing a single private network integration with a single view across all networks. This hides the complexity from the enterprise customer. Additionally, the single view of the network also provides security through segmentation and the ability to prevent fraud and ensure GDPR compliance.

Taking advantage of local cloud instances enables direct management of devices, optimizes device performance, and guarantees conformance to the SLAs promised to the enterprise.

floLIVE has a cloud native software defined connectivity platform that decouples services and functions from legacy infrastructure. The virtualization of the connectivity starts with a virtual core, where the IMSIs for local services are stored and available for deployments within a carriers’ footprint. From their virtual core companies can manage their devices directly and use intelligent solutions such as autonomous switching and auto-healing capabilities.  An additional benefit is the ability to partition the traffic to provide better security and privacy compliance.

Whether you are a service provider or an enterprise providing service with IoT, floCONTROL is a suite of capabilities developed by floLIVE that can be used to simplify deployment and management tasks.

  • floCONNECT enables workflow and orchestration.
  • floCORE facilitates the network slicing of the virtual core.
  • floDEVICE enables remote management over the air updates and data preparation
  • floSIM is a provisioning and management solution that provides an alternative to eUICC
  • floBSS is a backend support system that provides rating, billing, invoicing and other CRM functions.

For the enterprise, SIM provisioning and management is done on a single console regardless of the carrier or country being and enables a pay as you go solution based on local rates and without roaming fees.

In addition, floLIVE has enabled private LTE within the system to support an enterprise network independent of service providers, allowing enterprises to streamline their internal deployments globally.

As we move to 5G network slicing, floLIVE represents a solution for the future.
