The Internet of Things is the interconnection of devices across a broad spectrum in our daily lives. Inside of it is an innumerable amount of data that travels between devices and servers that are constantly analyzing what we are doing and how we are doing it. This data is then used to create profiles that assist us and make our lives easier. This comes in the form of YouTube displaying videos that might interest us on our TV and phones.
This is also shown in cars, as they constantly relay information to a Cloud Server so that data analysts can determine how the cars are driving and what changes need to be made. In a local sense, it also provides us with the information of the internal mechanisms inside of our vehicle. For instance, when the check engine light comes on, or a tire pressure gauge light switches on, this is a relayed message from a sensor inside of our vehicles to our dashboard. This basic structure of network communication is the essence of IoT.
Recently, the new expansion of the Internet of Things has been made very public as technologies, such as the cloud, become ubiquitous. We have gotten used to our phones and computers being connected and sharing details. We can now hop from computer to computer, or device to device, without losing our information or stored data. This, oddly enough, keeps our information a little bit safer as we always can lend it a watchful eye. However, this does call into question how it will affect business exactly. We have already seen the benefits in our personal lives that the technology has led to in even the most mundane things. The impact this has on business however has led to innovations that can assist both employees and owners.
The first major innovation for the Internet of Things in business is the constant connection that we can have to our intranets. It seems simple enough, but, this recent innovation that can completely change the way we work and how we interact with our business. The ability for an independent node to connect to a server and access an internet access point leaves the possibility open for telecommuting employees and software personnel. This also means they no longer have to leave their work on an unsecured drive.
One of the biggest exploits of hackers is to catch sensitive data that has been moved from private data storage to public broadcast points in transportation.This allows us to access encrypted files at any time and on any device. This is not to endorse overworking however but rather the ability to keep files secured even when working remotely. New businesses have started to use remote working as a way to reduce cost and increase productivity without having the overhead of large office spaces or recreational areas. It also dramatically reduces food costs and other expenses that can drain a company of funds that could be used for development. The Internet of Things allows information to be stored and accessed everywhere which gives greater freedom to employees and owners alike.
The Internet of Things also allows for constant communication and monitoring of functions within a company. Through the use of automatic detection, a team leader can be notified when something is altered or enters the pipeline so that they can stay aware and on top of any changes. This makes it so we do not have to wait for traditional communication, but, can work seamlessly alongside the technology. The same goes for the daily travel expenses as cars can now relay where they have been and how much gas they have used. Functions such as these make management much easier and simpler so that a director or team leader doesn't have to be everywhere at once.
Ultimately, the Internet of Things is about streamlining innovations and making their impact more magnitudinous. IoT will lead us to a world where we can always stay connected and up-to-date. This technology in business will completely streamline productivity and make a much more efficient work environment.
