IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Lockheed Martin, Qualcomm, IBM Watson

By

Hello, droogs. Here in the IoT Evolution shalga, we're having a horrorshow week. Hope you are, too. Let’s smot back with this Week in Review.

In our lead story this week, defense technology giant Lockheed Martin, well known for being ahead of the technological curve, published a recent blog post, entitled “IoT is Transforming Modern Warfare.” In it, the company outlines some of the ways the Internet of Things is paving the way for the future of battlefield tactics and strategy.

In a great guest post, David Sovie, Global Managing Director, Electronics & High-Tech Industry, Accenturem gave us a look at what he believes will be the high tech story to watch in 2017: securing the IoT.

And now, the news: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a complaint against Qualcomm in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California for anti-competitive practices. The FTC's complaint alleges that certain Qualcomm business practices are in violation of U.S. competition law. In a recently released statement, Qualcomm asserts that it believes the complaint is based on a flawed legal theory, a lack of economic support and significant misconceptions about the mobile technology industry.

A new survey from Morning Consult, a media and technology company, has been released, and it seems to indicate that the driverless car industry still has a ways to go before consumers will be ready to hop in.

Sensory, a Silicon Valley company enhancing user experience and security for consumer electronics, and innerCore, provider of payment processing systems and cybersecurity solutions, have announced a global partnership with the goal of helping banks, enterprises and financial institutions worldwide to bolster security of data sensitive mobile apps.

Internet of Things company Echelon Corporation has announced its collaboration with IBM Watson IoT to bring cognitive intelligence to its adaptive streetlight control platform, helping municipalities transform into smarter, safer and more sustainable cities.

And on the IoT Time Podcast, I continued our second season by sitting down with Varun Nagaraj, CEO, Sierra Monitor Corp, to talk about 2017 trends, Systems of Things, Machine Learning, Data Analytics and the huge potential for market growth in the IoT, and also with Scott Schwalbe, Co-founder and CEO, NimbeLink, to talk about Cat-M1, Cellular technology development and connectivity standards. These episodes are sponsored by the IoT Evolution Expo. To become a sponsor of IoT Time, please email or tweet me.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Now is the time to put into your calendar the next IoT Evolution Expo, to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories.
