IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Deloitte, IBM Watson, NEXCOMM

By

Well hello my faithful IoT Evolution readers! Hope your week was delightful and fulfilling. Let’s wrap it up in grand style with another Week in Review.

In our lead story this week, we see a slate of 2017 predictions from Deloitte, which has said that more than 300 million smartphones, or more than one-fifth of units sold in 2017, will have machine learning capabilities within the device in the next 12 months.

And in another interesting bit of news, IBM Watson Health, according to a recent announcement, has signed a research initiative with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) aimed at defining a secure, efficient and scalable exchange of health data using blockchain technology.

And now, the news: According to a recent announcement, NEXCOM has collaborated with ALTECH to enable Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) to swing into action quicker than ever. In response to the public’s calls, nearly 1000 emergency trips have been made by vehicles equipped with NEXCOM and ALTECH's rugged mobile solutions which provide geographic information, emergency communications, and incident management to support quick response, safe practices, and operational efficiency for emergency medical services (EMS) and other first responder units.

Barcoding, Inc., a supply chain efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity provider, has predicted the top radio frequency identification (RFID) trends to affect the market in 2017. The company has also added RFID expert Patrick Richgels to its expanding RFID practice, which is focused on providing comprehensive solutions to customers.

And most recently on the IoT Time Podcast, I began our second year, and our second season, with a couple of amazing conversations. First, I spoke with Stuart Feffer, co-founder, Reality.ai, to talk about data science, signal recognition, defense intelligence and algorithms. In the second episode, I sat down with Robert Vamosi, CISSP, Synopsys, and author of “When Gadgets Betray Us,” one of the first books about IoT security. Finally, the series concludes with my talk with Allen Proithis, president, North America, Sigfox. These episodes are sponsored by the IoT Evolution Expo. There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Now is the time to put into your calendar the next IoT Evolution Expo, to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories.
