Wheelings and Delaings: Akamail Buys Concord, SAP Buys PLAT.ONE

By

Akamai Technologies has announced that it has acquired Concord Systems, a provider of technology for the high performance processing of data at scale, in an all cash transaction. The acquisition is expected to complement Akamai’s existing platform data processing capabilities and augment the Company's product roadmap for supporting customers leveraging IoT technologies.

“Concord brings a fresh, innovative and modern approach to some of the challenges and hard problems related to processing big data,” said Ash Kulkarni, SVP, Web Experience Division, Akamai. “Their team has developed critical software that enables the dynamic deployment of customer logic at scale. Together, their expertise will be a strong complement to Akamai, and we believe their technology is applicable across a number of different use cases.”

PLAT.ONE, an enterprise-grade IoT solutions platform developer, has been acquired by SAP SE. PLAT.ONE’s IoT platform enables the development and management of enterprise IoT environments, including connected products, smart cities, connected transport and smart manufacturing.

“It's a great testimony to the PLAT.ONE team and technology that SAP selected PLAT.ONE to become a key part of its IoT offering,” said Dr. John Bates, CEO, PLAT.ONE. “We believe this acquisition further strengthens and solidifies SAP's position as the global leader in the connected business space and we're excited to be part of that opportunity.”

SAP's IoT approach enables IoT development and runtime services through the HANA Cloud Platform to make it easier for enterprises and system integrators to build IoT-enabled applications.

“We conducted a review of IoT platforms in the market and found PLAT.ONE to be a strong leader, particularly in device interoperability, edge processing capabilities and development capabilities. It is great to add these leading capabilities to SAP HCP,” said Bjoern Goerke, EVP, Product and Innovation Technology, SAP.
