IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Samsung, SAS, Intraix

By

Hello, my IoT friends. This is the IoT Evolution World Week in Review. I’m in New Orleans at Collision, a great tech and innovation conference, and boy have I been meeting some great folks. There’s more to come, for sure. We’ll get to the news in just a bit, but first a quick reminder about the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas, July 11 to 14. If you want to get in on it as a sponsor or exhibitor, now’s the time, so hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

And now, the news:

Two things have been missing from the Smart Home marketplace: real ease-of-use (simple user control of “Everything” from a single interface), and contextual information to make to help make things even easier. Those gaps, call them missing links, being closed is behind the release of Singapore-based startup Intraix KLUG Home, a is a tiny USB device that plugs into your Wi-Fi router and connects you with the different smart devices around your home – all on one interface, controllable via a smartphone app.

Kaa, the open source IoT middleware platform, is at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco, and the company has announced that it will join Samsung’s growing Artik development community. The Artik processor group was announced in March, and is a key element in Samsung’s IoT strategy. Kaa will be working with the three new Samsung Artik processors using its platform.

Data management giant SAS last week hosted its annual Global Forum and celebrated its 40th birthday in Las Vegas, and your faithful IoT Evolution World team was there to bring you the skinny on what's hot and what's not in big data science for the IoT.

This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I spoke with Keith Collins, CIO & SVP, SAS, at SAS Global Forum in Las Vegas to talk about why Big Data is bunk, how the IoT will save the word (seriously), and what the future of analytics looks like.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in Fort Lauderdale in your calendar. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to our editorial director, Ken Briodagh at [email protected] or on Twitter @KenBriodagh. Stay warm, my friends.
