myDevices Spices Up IoT with Cayenne

By

Everyone likes to talk about the Internet of Things, but putting together IoT solutions can be a real challenge for developers given all the different pieces from different suppliers involved. In an effort to remove that complexity and make its IoT platform extremely easy to use, myDevices today takes the wraps off Cayenne.

“Cayenne is the first IoT drag-and-drop project builder ever created,” said Kevin Bromber, CEO of myDevices, in an interview yesterday at ITEXPO in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

A free extension to the myDevices IoT platform, Cayenne helps developers more quickly and easily create IoT solutions. Cayenne has drag-and-drop widgets developers can customize. Cayenne also makes it easy for both technical and non-technical developers to add devices to their IoT solutions. And Cayenne offers if-then scenarios that developers can leverage. For example, if the fan turns off, turn off the motor.

A division of Avanquest, Los Angeles-based myDevices launched its IoT platform in October of 2015. Bromber said the myDevices IoT platform is unique in that it can allow developers to leverage any device (be it an IoT device like a sensor or a PC, printer, smartphone, or TV) with any kind of connectivity. It also features schedulers so users can turn things on and off, it can work at the edge without being connected to the cloud, and it has a rules engine.

The solution is offered to developers for free. Manufacturers of such hardware as motors and relays, and companies like Acer and Semtech that “want something super custom,” also use the myDevices IoT platform, said Bromber.

Bromber said myDevices has a vibrant community of developers, and that the company is keen to listen to what developer needs are. More than 100 developers participated in the company’s alpha.
