IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Ingenu, HP, Cubic

By

Welcome back, my friends, foes and rabid fans (thanks, mom!) to IoT Evolution World Week in Review. It’s been a really cool week for us here, with IoT news from CTIA hitting the wires, an amazing new technology in cellular connectivity from Cubic, and I go off on a rant about how it’s time for ubiquitous Wi-Fi. Let’s get into it.

In a McKinsey & Company report “Unlocking the potential of the Internet of Things,” it was reported that the IoT market will lift security research and spending through 2025. The security market could grow from $6.89 billion in 2015 to $28.90 billion by 2020, according to a new market research report published by Markets and Markets.

On-Ramp Wireless on September 9 announced it has relaunched and rebranded as Ingenu, described in the announcement as meaning: “Simply Genius.” The new company will incorporate the existing Random Phase Multiple Access technology and networks, and will also begin building the “Machine Network” to be the first nationwide M2M and IoT connectivity network, which is hugely ambitious.

In an episode of IoT Time this week, I applaud On-Ramp’s vision and say it is critical for this kind of network to be ubiquitous and all-encompassing in order to make the IoT an ever-present feature of consumer and industrial lives.

And in what I think is the biggest news of the week, Irish telecom company Cubic announced that it will work with HP and Volkswagen in a huge attempt to race from the southern tip of Africa to the northern tip of Europe in a Touarag. How will Cubic help? By providing its revolutionary cellular chipset that allows the connected vehicle to connect to any of the more than 20 cellular networks along the route without having to swap SIM cards and all of the connections are local. Mic Drops.

It’s time to roll out, my friends. Visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in January in Fort Lauderdale in your calendar. We’re looking for speakers now. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories.
