New Arduino Board Specifically Designed for IoT Applications

By

Arduino is the developer’s dream: an open source platform, with easy-to-use, plug-and-play controls. On July 2, RS Components, announced that it has developed the Arduino M0 Pro, a new extension of the 32-bit Arduino platform made to be ideal for integrating into new IoT solutions.

It is aimed at embedded engineers, hackers and students. The Arduino M0 Pro board is designed to help the development of innovative ideas for smart IoT devices, wearable technologies, high-tech automation and robotics. The board is also suited to be an educational tool for learning about 32-bit application development.

Fuelled by the low-power Atmel SAM D21 microcontroller, which integrates the 32-bit ARM Cortex® M0+ core, the Arduino M0 Pro board expands the Arduino family with increased performance and a flexible feature set. A key feature of the board is the Atmel Embedded Debugger, which provides a full debug interface without the need for additional hardware and easy software debugging. The EDBG also supports a virtual COM port that can be used for device programming and traditional Arduino boot loader functionality.

Key hardware specifications of the M0 Pro board include: ATSAMD21G18 MCU running at 48MHz and packaged in a 48-pin LQFP, 3.3V operation, 256KB of Flash memory, 32KB of SRAM and EEPROM of up to 16KB via emulation. Input/output options include 14 digital I/O pins with 12 PWM channels and UART, six 12-bit ADC input channels and a 10-bit DAC output.

Broadly used and accepted by the tech community, Arduino is ideal for IoT development. It has a media-friendly cache and ease-of-use unavailable from most other hardware platforms.

If you are interested in how to use existing platforms in new and IoT-friendly ways, make sure you register today for the IoT Evolution Expo, August 17 to 20 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. See you in the silica sand.
